Sacred geometry (a.k.a. the Golden Ratio) consists of mathematical shapes and patterns in nature, religious structures and cosmology. Historian’s search for these hidden forms. Here are ten incredible works of sacred geometry.
The Flower of Life
It’s formed from many circles overlapping each other in a consistent pattern and made of all five Platonic solids and Metatron’s Cube. The Temple of Osiris in Egypt features the oldest known depiction of the Flower of Life. Various religions include this ancient symbol.
Leonardo da Vinci was known to use the “divine proportion” or ratios of body parts. It’s an aesthetically pleasing measurement used in design, nature and art. The Vitruvian Man is based on the “ideal proportions” of man.
Before beginning a painting, da Vinci would lay out sketches utilizing “divine proportions”. It’s believed he used mathematics to incorporate balance, harmony and beauty. Sacred geometry appears to be evident in the Mona Lisa since her face falls in line with the golden rectangle.
A labyrinth is a combination of a circle and spiral to make a complicated path. The best known is in the story of the Minotaur in Greek mythology. The labyrinth is a puzzle and fantastical work of art.
It’s debated whether the Golden Ration was used in the design of the Parthenon. However it may be present even if it’s unintentional. Some proportions are in the columns and support beam.
The Rosslyn Chapel
13 geometrical sound patterns were found to match 215 “musical cubes” in the chapel’s pillars and arches. By sprinkling a metal plate with salt and utilizing the vibration of sound frequency the patterns may be created. The cube patterns correspond to musical tones of a melody.
The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid communicates wonders of geometry. It approximates the Squaring of the Circle. A lesser known fact is that the Euler number is hidden in it’s dimensions. It’s exact dimensions follow a formula in relation to the cubes of specific integers.
Crop circles are known to appear quickly overnight in fields and other desolate areas in the world. Some are made up of many arches and circles of mathematical proportion. The Flower of Life has been found in some crop circles.
A mandala basically contains a circle at the center of a square with four gates. The human eye is naturally drawn towards the center by their geometrical shapes. The pattern of the mandala is a symbol of the cosmos.
The Milky Way
The Fibonacci pattern is found in spiral galaxies. The spiral arms of the Milky Way are a description of a logarithmic spiral measuring approximately 12 degrees. Beginning at the galaxy’s center there are four major arms.
Other examples are flower petals, shells and DNA molecules. Sacred Geometry is hidden everywhere. With a keen eye for detail, the mysteries of the universe can be solved.
